How do I set up a Geofence?

What is a Geofence?

A Geofence is a virtual geographic zone created on a map. It is used to restrict where Self Service clockings can be made. An employee would need to be inside the Geofence in order to clock in or out using Self Service.

This guide will look at:

  • Focus Setup requirements
  • Creating a new Geofence
  • Editing a Geofence

Focus Setup requirements

Before you can create a Geofence, you need to ensure that the following two requirements have been actioned:

  1. Navigate to System>System Setup>Web>Parameters and tick ‘Dynamic Maps’.
  2. Navigate to System>System Setup>Timesheet>General and tick ‘Enable Geolocation’.

Creating a new Geofence

  1. Select ‘System’ from the Menu Bar.
  2. Select ‘Locations’ from the System Tree.
  3. Select the location where you wish to set up the Geofence.
  4. Tick ‘Geofence’ - a map will appear.
  5. Select ‘Draw Zone’.
  6. Zoom in on the map to the location where you wish to create your Geofence.
  7. Start to draw your Geofence. Left-click on your starting point, move your cursor and left-click on the next point.
  8. Continue until all your points are connected. Don’t worry about precision at this stage as you can edit your Geofence afterwards.
  9. Save.

Whilst drawing, if you make a mistake, simply select ‘Stop Drawing’ to start over again.

Editing a Geofence

By selecting the shape again, you are able to edit the Geofence.

  • Holding the left-click, drag one of the edit points to change the shape or size.
  • Right-click on one of the edit points to delete it.
  • Holding the left-click on your mouse, drag the entire Geofence to a new location.
  • Select ‘Delete Zone’ to remove the Geofence completely.

Additional information

A Geofence can be any shape or size. A Geofence can also consist of more than one zone.
