How do I set up a Focus Wave Fire Point?

The Focus Wave Fire Point is an NFC Sticker that can be used in the event of a Fire Alarm by your team to mark themselves as ‘Safe’. It is not the same as a time and attendance point, and will not affect whether someone is clocked ‘IN’ or ‘OUT’. It is only used to record whether someone is ‘Present’ in the event of a Fire Roll Call being carried out.

This guide will look at:

  • Setting up the Fire Point in Focus
  • Granting Employees access to the Fire Point in Focus
  • Positioning the Fire Point

Setting up the Fire Point in Focus

Each Fire Point has an embedded NFC Tag with a Unique Identification Number (UID). You must create a Connection for each Fire Point you wish to use, and enter this UID as a reference number for Focus to track.

  • Select ‘System’ from the main Menu
  • Open the ‘Connections’ folder from the Tree
  • Select ‘Create New’

This will give you a new Connection. There will be plenty of options here that you don’t need to worry about.

  • From the Device drop down menu, select ‘Focus Wave Fire Point’

This will remove all the settings that aren’t applicable to the Fire Point.

  • Give the Fire Point a name
  • Choose the Location where you intend to use the Fire Point
  • Add a Description if required
  • Hit Save
  • Switch to the General Tab and add the UID number.

The UID is displayed in two locations on each Fire Point.

  • Save

Granting Employees access to the Fire Point in Focus

When Employees have access to Fire Points there is a permanent ‘Fire Safe’ button available within their Focus Self Service App.

For this reason, you may not wish to assign Fire Points to every employee, but just those who need to use them. Employees whose day to day work is at a different location, or who work remotely or on the road will not need to have a ‘Fire Safe’ button on their app screen at all times.

There is an option within Self Service Profiles to grant access to Fire Points.

  • Select ‘System’ from the main menu
  • Select ‘Self Service Profiles’
  • Choose the Self Service Profile you wish to edit
  • Check the ‘Focus Wave Fire Point’ checkbox in the General Tab
  • Save
  • Repeat for any other Self Service Profiles that require access to the Fire Points

Once an employee is a member of a Self Service Profile that has access to Fire Points, they will be able to access every Fire Point that has been set up inside your Focus System. There is no need to assign individual Fire Points to employees.

Positioning the Fire Point

The Fire Point is a self-adhesive sticker. You can peel off the main part of the sticker and apply it to most surfaces. If you don’t want to stick it to something then instead just cut the Fire Point from the sticker within the white lines and position it where you wish.

Please do not stick it to a metallic surface, as this can cause interference with the NFC Tag within, and cause it to not work properly.

The sticker is durable and waterproof and can be positioned outside - in fact, that is the intended use.

When choosing a location for the Fire Point there are some things you may wish to consider:

  • Is the area likely to remain safe in the event of a fire?
  • Will it be safe for employees to congregate around? Each scan only takes a couple of seconds, but it is still possible for crowds to form.
  • Do we have enough Fire Points to allow employees to safely access them?
  • Is the sticker clearly visible?

You can also write directly onto the Fire Point itself any other information you wish, such as a Muster Point number or Fire Group numbers. There is a little strip just below the main NFC tag to help with this - for best results use either a ball point pen or a decent permanent marker.
